Ground is broken at Fountain North
22 January 2007
The £200 million regeneration of an eight-acre Edinburgh city centre site was signalled by the breaking of ground by development partners, AMA and Grosvenor.
Demolition of the former Scottish & Newcastle bottling and distribution plant will now start, clearing the way for a new neighbourhood to take root and grow in the Fountainbridge area.
The event marks a step forward for the renewal of the brewery site and coincides with the submission of a detailed ‘public realm’ planning application to the City of Edinburgh Council.
The plans have been devised by Edinburgh-based landscape architects EDAW and set out what will be in the new neighbourhood. The lights, roads, pavements are all shown with details of materials and finishes.
In total, one third of the neighbourhood will be open space – including a public park, children’s play area, central courtyards and a network of walkways and cycle paths.
